Scrapping single use plastic by 2042 is not ambitious enough says Green MEP

Responding to the news that toy making giant Hasbro is to phase out most of its single use plastic packaging, Green Party MEP for the East of England, Catherine Rowett said:

“I was delighted to read that Hasbro, the largest toy maker in the world would phase out plastic packaging for new products by the end of 2022. Although it would have been wonderful if they could have scrapped single use plastic packaging immediately, it does highlight how unambitious the British government is by pledging to end single use plastics by 2042. Urgent action to tackle the problem of plastic is needed now!”

Tackling the problem of single use plastic has been one the Green Party’s key campaigns across the region for many years.

Catherine continued:

“I look forward to a day when children’s bedrooms are not cluttered with plastics and all toy makers and indeed manufacturers of all products find sustainable alternatives, which do not pollute our rivers and oceans.”
